Are There Foods I Must Avoid While Nursing?

In general, all foods and beverages can be assumed in moderation unless there

is a strong personal or family history of food allergy.  In that case, if you detect a possible

reaction by your baby, the food can be eliminated from your diet for two weeks while you

see if there is improvement or change in the baby’s comfort and/or behavior.

Alcohol can be passed through human milk so that it must be consumed in moderation.

Many drugs can be passed through your milk so be sure to consult your lactation or

physician when taking or considering prescription medications.

Robin B. Frees IBCLC is a lactation consultant with office in Malvern.
